The Żywiec Brewery Museum opened in 2006 to mark the brewery’s 150th anniversary. It is one of the largest and most modern facilities of its kind in Poland. The museum welcomes nearly 100,000 visitors a year from Poland and other countries.
It is located in the brewery’s former ageing cellars. It is a place where you can not only see for yourself that the brewery’s history mirrors that of Poland, and hear extraordinary tales about the Habsburgs of Żywiec, but also discover, amongst other things, whether it is possible to brew beer without hops, what the foam in beer is for, and why you can detect a hint of coffee in a porter.
Here, you can touch, take photos and taste. After a dose of fascinating stories, you can appreciate the skills of the brewers from the Żywiec School of Brewing by tasting beer straight from the brewery. It’s well worth taking a break at the benches in the Żywiec Beer Hall whilst admiring the magnificent architecture of the 19th-century buildings.
The Żywiec Brewery Museum is one of the sites on the Silesian Voivodeship Industrial Monuments Route, having been awarded the title of ‘Star of Technology’. Since 2010, it has been an ‘anchor point’ on the European Industrial Heritage Route, which testifies to its supra-regional significance for the industrial history of Europe.
